LVM3, India’s heaviest rocket, which launched Chandrayaan-3 in 2023, when India became the first country to land near the Moon’s south pole.
LVM3, first called GSLV Mk III, is India’s heavy-lift rocket: two big solid boosters, a liquid core stage, and an Indian-built cryogenic upper stage. In July 2023 it launched Chandrayaan-3, whose lander touched down near the Moon’s south pole that August, a first for any country. It’s also the rocket chosen for Gaganyaan, India’s crew program.
