Bumper, a captured V-2 with a small WAC Corporal on top, and the first rocket ever launched from Cape Canaveral.
Bumper put a small American WAC Corporal rocket on top of a captured German V-2, making one of the first large two-stage rockets. In February 1949, Bumper 5 sent its upper stage nearly 400 kilometres high, higher than anything had flown before. In July 1950, Bumper 8 became the first rocket ever launched from Cape Canaveral.
