Features and help

Use bookmarks like files.

Bookmarks Explorer turns Chrome bookmarks into a calm, file-manager-style space with inline editing, sorting, drag and drop, preview, undo, and a user-driven AI organize step.

Getting around

Use the folder tree to browse your bookmark folders. Click a folder to view its bookmarks. Use the chevron to collapse or expand nested folders.

Mouse Back and Mouse Forward step through folder history inside the extension.

Opening bookmarks and folders

Double-click a bookmark favicon to open it in a new tab. Double-click a folder icon in the bookmarks panel to open that folder.

Right-click a bookmark or folder for more open options, including opening multiple links in tabs or a new window.

Selecting items

Click an item to select it. Shift-click to select a range. Drag a selection rectangle over blank space to select multiple items.

Click blank space to clear the current selection.

Editing names and URLs

Double-click a bookmark name, bookmark URL, or folder name to edit it inline. Press Enter or click the green checkmark to save.

Press Escape or click away to cancel.

Copy, paste, cut, and duplicate

Use keyboard shortcuts or right-click actions to copy, cut, paste, and duplicate bookmarks or folders.

Copying a folder duplicates its nested folders and bookmarks. Pasted top-level items get a numbered prefix when needed.

Drag and drop

Drag bookmarks into folders, folders into other folders, or reorder items inside the current panel.

Invalid drops, such as moving a folder into itself or one of its child folders, are blocked.

Adding folders

Right-click blank space in the bookmarks panel to add a folder to the current folder. Right-click a folder to add a new folder inside it.

New folders enter rename mode right away.

Creating folders from selection

Select one or more bookmarks, right-click, and choose Create folder with selection.

Bookmarks Explorer creates a new folder in the right spot and moves the selected bookmarks into it.

AI organize

AI organize is a user-driven copy and paste workflow. Select bookmarks or use the current folder, copy the export and prompt into ChatGPT, then paste the returned JSON back into the extension.

Review before applying. The preview tree shows proposed folders and bookmark moves with checkboxes. Only checked changes are applied.
Privacy note. The export includes bookmark titles, URLs, and folder names. Only paste bookmark data you are comfortable sharing with ChatGPT or another AI tool.

Sorting

Sort the current folder by name, URL, domain, date added, folders first, or bookmarks first.

Sorting applies only to the folder you are viewing. Undo can restore the previous order.

Preview panel

The preview panel shows bookmark details and loads a page preview when the site allows it.

Some sites block embedded previews. Use Open in new tab when a site can’t be previewed inside the extension.

Undo and recovery

Undo is available after supported actions, including delete, move, paste, sort, and AI organize.

Non-empty folder deletes ask for confirmation before anything is removed.

Right-click menus

Right-click a bookmark, folder, selected group, or blank space to see actions for that context.

Delete actions are styled as destructive and sit at the end of the menu.
