Privacy Policy for Bookmarks Explorer

Bookmarks Explorer is a Chrome extension that helps you browse, edit, sort, preview, move, copy, paste, and organize your own bookmarks. Your data stays in your browser.

Single purpose

Bookmarks Explorer has one purpose: to help you organize your own bookmarks.

What the extension uses

Bookmarks Explorer reads and writes:

  • Bookmark titles
  • Bookmark URLs
  • Folder names
  • Folder structure
  • Favicons already cached by Chrome for those pages

Why the extension needs bookmark access

Bookmark access is required to show your bookmark tree, move bookmarks, rename them, create folders, sort folders, duplicate links, and preview a page before opening it.

Permissions

  • bookmarks: Read and write your bookmark tree.
  • storage: Save local settings, such as sort order and the last open folder, on your device.
  • favicon: Display the site icon next to each link.

If a future version requires a new permission, it will be listed here.

What the extension does not collect

The extension does not collect passwords, cookies, payment information, chat logs, personal files, or account data. It does not collect browsing history beyond the URLs already saved as bookmarks. It does not sell user data.

No analytics, no telemetry

The extension does not run analytics. It does not send crash logs, usage stats, page views, click events, or any other signal off your device.

No remote code

The extension does not load or run remote code. All code ships in the build installed from the Chrome Web Store.

AI organize feature

The AI feature is user-driven.

  • You select which bookmarks to export.
  • The export contains titles, URLs, folder names, and folder structure only.
  • You paste that export into ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, or another tool of your choice.
  • You paste the returned JSON back into Bookmarks Explorer.
  • You preview the proposed tree, select the moves to apply, and skip the rest.

The extension does not call an AI service on its own. It does not store an API key. It does not send bookmark data to an AI service in the background. When you paste data into a third-party AI tool, that tool's privacy policy applies. Only paste data you are comfortable sharing.

Where your data lives

Bookmarks live in Chrome's bookmark system. Local extension settings live in chrome.storage.local on your device. The extension does not use chrome.storage.sync, so settings do not move through your Google account.

When you uninstall

Your bookmarks stay in Chrome. Chrome clears the extension's local settings on uninstall. The extension does not store data on any server.

Third-party links

The extension and the marketing site link to skrabek.com, the Chrome Web Store, and other public pages. Those pages have their own privacy practices.

The site at skrabek.com runs no analytics, no pixels, and no third-party trackers. It serves static pages.

The extension may open skrabek.com when you click the creator credit.

Children's privacy

Bookmarks Explorer is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect data from them.

GDPR, CCPA, and similar laws

Bookmarks Explorer does not collect personal data, so most rights under GDPR, CCPA, and similar laws do not apply. For questions or requests, use the contact below.
