Angara A5, Russia’s heavy-lift rocket and the first all-new launcher family the country has built since the Soviet era, flying since 2014.
Angara A5 is the heavy member of the Angara family, the first completely new rocket family Russia developed after the Soviet Union broke up. It first flew in December 2014, and it’s built from identical modules: five of the same core stage burn together at liftoff, four of them strapped around the one in the middle.
It flies from Plesetsk in the north and from the newer Vostochny Cosmodrome in the Russian Far East.
