Dnepr, a converted Soviet SS-18 missile that launched commercial satellites out of an underground silo from 1999 to 2015.
Dnepr was built from the R-36M, the heavy Soviet intercontinental missile NATO called the SS-18 Satan, after arms-reduction treaties retired them. Instead of a launch pad, it took off from a missile silo, pushed out by a gas charge before its engines lit.
It flew from Baikonur and from Yasny in southern Russia, carrying small commercial and science satellites, sometimes dozens at a time.
